The first stadium turf of Yen Bai is being renovated to serve the cultural and sports needs of the people.

According to Lao Dong's report on December 25, the soccer field and Marathon track at Yen Bai City Stadium are being replaced after being affected by storm No. 3.

At the construction site, dozens of workers, machinery and materials are gathered to construct and complete the project soon.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Son (32 years old, Hong Ha, Yen Bai City) said that replacing the field with artificial turf not only makes it easier to maintain and repair the field, but also creates a synchronous and harmonious green space.

"This place is not only an address for tourists to visit and burn incense to commemorate Uncle Ho, but also preserves sacred memories of the great leader - President Ho Chi Minh in the hearts of the people of all ethnic groups in Yen Bai province," said Mr. Son.

The historical site of the Stadium Stage (Yen Bai City Stadium) is located in Hong Ha ward, about 600m west of Yen Bai station.

This place was recognized as a national historical relic on November 16, 1988 by the decision of the Ministry of Culture (now the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism).

The stage is 10m long, 5.5m wide, 8.2m high and has 2 floors. The first floor has an area of 42m2, including 3 entrances, the second floor has a similar area, divided into 2 parts. The outer part is where President Ho Chi Minh stood to speak at the rally on September 25, 1958.

In 2016, the stage was renovated and upgraded with 7 construction items: Expanding the Uncle Ho memorial area and the two stands with a capacity of 4,300 seats, and building an auxiliary system.

On December 25, speaking with Lao Dong, a representative of the Yen Bai City Construction Investment Project Management Board said that after the storm and flood, the natural grass surface and drainage system at Yen Bai City Stadium were severely damaged.

“The project of replacing the turf and dredging the sewers is part of the project to restore the works after the storm and flood with a total investment of 9.5 billion VND, implemented by Construction Joint Stock Company No. 2. Currently, the renovation progress has reached more than 90%, expected to be completed by December 31, 2024,” the representative informed.

After completing the conquest and establishment of Yen Bai province in 1900, in 1905, the French established a Legion barracks to protect their government. To serve the lives of the soldiers, in 1927, the French built this stadium to organize festival activities and football matches.

By 1930, the stadium was completed, and since then, France has regularly organized recreational activities here.

In 1954, peace was restored, Yen Bai decided to restore the football field into a town stadium. In January 1957, the province built a grandstand (the current stage) and a wall surrounding the field in an oval shape.

The most important historical event was on September 25, 1958, when the Government delegation led by President Ho Chi Minh visited Yen Bai province. During his time in the province, at the request of President Ho Chi Minh, the Provincial Administrative Committee chose the town stadium as the rally venue for Uncle Ho to speak to the people of all ethnic groups in the province.
