Expectations
War films and the history of the Vietnamese screen for decades have always been expected, but have not had worthy works. Two war-themed films are being completed in time to be released in theaters on the occasion of the country's important events.
Tunnel: Sun In The Dark is set in 1967 when the war against the US escalated. The film revolves around the battle of a 21-man guild led by Bay Theo (Thai Hoa) at Binh An Dong base. The task force received the task at all costs to protect a new strategic intelligence group that had gone into hiding at the base. It was this mission that made Bay Theo's 21-man tourist team the target of the US military's search and destruction.
The battle between a group of people in the geographical area against the powerful US military force equipped with modern weapons is expected to bring realistic and emotional footage to The Earth: Sun in the dark.
According to director Bui Thac Chuyen, he has been struggling with film scripts since 2014, having to edit them many times. To get into the film project, the cast of " Geography: Sun in the dark" had to do a weightlifting process, and participate in many separate training courses to be able to play the role of campaign soldiers fighting in the geographical area.
A film studio has also been restored in Cu Chi according to the image of the terrain. Director Bui Thac Chuyen said that he was urged to do this project, he chose the story from Cu Chis geography because, these are scientific and glorious military projects, which have helped a weaker, more disadvantaged force stand firm against the pressure of a strong opponent.
Meanwhile, director Dang Thai Huyen is in the process of filming and completing the post-production stage for the film "Red Rain". The film is set in the 81-day and night war in the hot summer of 1972 in the ancient citadel of Quang Tri.
Both Red Rain and The Earth: The Sun in the Dark have revealed that they have invested a large budget, but above all, beyond the scale of a film, filmmakers hope to bring the audience love and great pride in the indomitable historical journey of the nation.
War and peace
According to the representative of the producer of Red Rain, recreating the war stories in peacetime that have re-established 50 years is a big challenge.
Both director Bui Thac Chuyen and Dang Thai Huyen had to work hard to find veterans and remaining witnesses from the war. Recreating the context of war also requires elaborate research.
With "Red Rain", the fierce 81-day and night battle in the ancient citadel of Quang Tri has become a legend. The bloody war of soldiers on the banks of the Thach Han River in the summer of 1972 took place in the most brutal way in history to give Vietnam a position at the negotiating table towards signing the Paris Agreement in 1973.
Sharing with Lao Dong reporter, the representative of the film's producer "Red Rain" affirmed that they have read a lot, seen documents, souvenirs... to get " material" to supplement the script "Red Rain" by writer Chu Lai.
War will be viewed from many angles and directions. The film "Red Rain" is not only a story about war, it is also a story about the value of peace, about love for the homeland, about the sacrifice of an entire young generation on the path to save the country... The film is not only a story about war, about victory - loss, it is also a story about broken fates" - the representative of the producer of "Red Rain" shared.
Stories about war will be seen through a more multidimensional lens, with a different approach in Red Rain and Geography: Sun in the dark.
