The fan union stated, "The malicious and defamatory rumors targeting Kim Soo Hyun are spreading through individuals unrelated to him through online communities and social media. We are currently pursuing a criminal complaint."
Lawyer Yang Tae Young from Siwoo Law Firm, representative of fan Union, revealed plans to file a complaint with Seoul Seongbuk Police Station as early as this week. Lawyer Yang Tae Young added that the fan Union is accusing criminals of defamation under the Korean Information and Communications Network Act.
Unlike insulting allegations that require a direct complaint from the victim, defamation allegations can be pursued by a third party.
"This is a voluntary movement to protect the actor's rights and maintain a healthy fan culture," said the fan representative.
"We will not tolerate personal attacks or defamatory comments in the name of freedom of speech. No leniency will be shown" - the male artist's fan representative added.
They added that they had collected a lot of evidence, including malicious comments, fabricated images and fabricated posts that had been circulating online for months.
Kim Soo Hyun's management company, Gold Medalist, also filed a legal complaint on April 15, stating: "Unfounded speculations and unverified statements are constantly posted online, damaging the artist's reputation."
The management company confirmed that it had filed a lawsuit against defamation and insulting of anti-fans to competent authorities.
