The 2026 Tet movie season witnessed fierce competition when 4 Vietnamese films were released in theaters from the 1st day of Tet (February 17), including "Thỏ ơi!!", "Nhà ba tôi một phòng", "Mùi phở" and "Báu vật trời cho".
After the first days of ticket sales with many fluctuations, by the afternoon of February 14, the ticket office situation was gradually clear when Tran Thanh's "Thỏ ơi!" continued to lead in revenue.
According to updated data on February 14, "Thỏ ơi!!" reached about 3.3 billion VND, temporarily ranking first in the Tet film group. Next is "Nhà ba tôi một phòng" by Truong Giang with 1.4 billion VND, showing that this family film still maintains stable attraction. "Mùi phở" reached about 1.2 billion VND, while "Báu vật trời cho" recorded 305 million VND.
Previously, in the early stages of ticket sales on February 12, "Thỏ ơi!!" created an advantage when reaching the milestone of more than 1.1 billion VND in pre-booked tickets, far ahead of competitors. At that time, "Mùi phở" and "Nhà ba tôi một phòng" respectively reached more than 500 million VND, while "Báu vật trời cho" started later. Maintaining the leading position until February 14 shows that the strong communication strategy of Tran Thanh's crew is being effective.
Not only attracting attention with a trailer that reached the top of YouTube trends, "Thỏ ơi!!" is also promoted by many interactive activities with audiences, such as lucky money gifts and postcards for early ticket theaters. The advantage of Tran Thanh's large number of followers on social networks also contributes to promoting the heat for the film.
Meanwhile, "My Father's House, One Room" marks Truong Giang's return to cinema after 5 years, and is also a project where he takes on three roles: producer, director and main actor. Although not leading in revenue, the film still maintains a not too far-fetched gap from the group above, showing growth potential thanks to the family theme - a genre that is often suitable for Tet audiences.
The movie "Mui pho" continues to maintain its competitive position when targeting the general public, while "Bau vat troi cho", although starting slowly, still has the opportunity to improve revenue if it receives positive feedback from the word-of-mouth effect.
Many film experts believe that the 2026 Tet film season is one of the most competitive film seasons of Vietnamese cinema, when many famous directors go to theaters together and the communication strategy is implemented very early. Although "Thỏ ơi!!" is temporarily leading, the revenue gap may still change when the audience will increase sharply during peak holidays.
The box office race is therefore predicted to be volatile, and the final result will depend on audience feedback after the film officially enters the wide release phase.
