Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism responds to two degraded national monuments

On the afternoon of December 5, at a regular press conference, the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City responded to Lao Dong Newspaper about two degraded national relics in Ho Chi Minh City.

The restoration and repair of degraded relics such as Truong Tan Buu Mausoleum (Ward 8, Phu Nhuan District) and Hung Loi ancient pottery kiln (Ward 16, District 8) are receiving public attention.

According to the investigation of Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, the national relic Truong Tan Buu Mausoleum has seriously degraded, with many places broken and cracked but has not been restored.

At Hung Loi pottery kiln, the reporter's records show that there are no traces left of this relic site.

Responding to reporters from Lao Dong Newspaper, the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City said: "The ancient Hung Loi pottery kiln relic has now degraded, the upper part of the kiln has collapsed, leaving only the foundation of the structure. The city has implemented the restoration and embellishment of this relic, but the project is behind schedule due to encroachment, complicated land disputes, and prolonged complaints.

The Ho Chi Minh City Monuments Conservation Center (the unit expected to be assigned as the investor) is preparing a plan and estimating the total investment to propose capital allocation according to the provisions of the Law on Public Investment. It is expected that the unit will carry out the restoration and renovation of this monument in the period of 2026-2030.

The People's Committee of District 8 has basically completed the construction of a fence to protect the Hung Loi Ancient Pottery Kiln relic on the land area owned by the State; and has strengthened security work to prevent the relic from being encroached upon or damaged.

Regarding the Truong Tan Buu Mausoleum relic site, the Department of Culture and Sports of Ho Chi Minh City shared: "Regarding the national relic site of Truong Tan Buu Mausoleum, the Department stated that currently, the tomb area, the screen, and the tomb wall have peeled and cracked in some places. The decorative patterns on the screen have deteriorated over time. Therefore, the restoration of this relic must be consistent with the architecture and materials to ensure the ancient features of the relic.

The People's Committee of Phu Nhuan District and the Management Board of Truong Tan Buu Mausoleum have not proposed any restoration or rehabilitation since 2020. In the near future, the Department will coordinate with relevant units to discuss with the People's Committee of Phu Nhuan District on the restoration and rehabilitation of the Truong Tan Buu Mausoleum.
