Meritorious Artist Tuan Phong, whose birth name is Nguyen Tuan Phong, was born in 1952 in Hanoi. At the age of 16, he won a prize in a singing contest for young people in the capital when he performed the song “The sound of the gong of liberation, the sound of the gong of victory” by musician Y-Na (musician Hoang Van).
In 1972, while studying Biology at Hanoi University, Nguyen Tuan Phong joined the Southern Song and Dance Troupe because of his passion for music. Right after the National Reunification Day, Tuan Phong followed the Southern Song and Dance Troupe from the North to Ho Chi Minh City until now.
From 1978 to 1984, he continued to study vocal music at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music, worked at the Lotus Song and Dance Troupe, then transferred to teach at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory of Music.
In the late 80s, when pre-war music was allowed to be popular again, Tuan Phong was loved by the audience when he performed the song "Winter Night" by musician Nguyen Van Thuong.
