In recent days, two healing dramas - "Dear Hyeri" and "What Comes After Love" - have received the attention of the audience when they officially aired.
Although they both have the theme of love, each work has its own strengths to attract audiences.
Dear Hyeri - the story of a female announcer with multiple personalities
“Dear Hyeri” revolves around Joo Eun Ho (Shin Hye Sun), an announcer who suffers from dissociative identity disorder after her sister goes missing and breaks up with her longtime boyfriend Hyun Oh (Lee Jin Wook).
After 2 episodes, “Dear Hyeri” recorded low viewership ratings of 2.024% and 2.163% respectively, but the show was not heavily criticized by the audience. Instead, they expressed their excitement and anticipation for the next episode.
The media explained that the film was noticed because of its beautiful setting, interesting character development, and unpredictable love story between Eun Ho and his ex-lover Hyun Oh and Hye Ri (Eun Ho's other personality - currently working as a parking attendant) and Joo Yeon.
The youthful appearance and passionate acting of the cast are also factors that score points. In particular, Shin Hye Sun, despite playing two roles, did not encounter many difficulties.
In the scenes, without changing hairstyle or outfit, just looking at Eun Ho's eyes, the viewer can feel the different atmosphere.
Since the drama is 12 episodes long, Eun Ho's past wounds are expected to be revealed soon.
Previously, the screenwriter revealed that “Dear Hyeri” is not simply a romance story but also a story about the characters finding solutions and helping themselves grow.
What Comes After Love - a cross-border romance
“What Comes After Love” tells the story of Choi Hong (Lee Se Young) and Jungo (Sakaguchi Kentaro) who meet again by chance after 5 years of separation.
Originally adapted from the famous novel of the same name, the project received much anticipation as soon as it was announced.
Although the film's slow pace, or its non-linear storytelling - interweaving the past with the main couple's sweet love story in Japan or the quiet atmosphere when they reunite as adults in Korea - are not new, the film still has plus points.
It is the beautiful, poetic camera angles that bring viewers emotional connections despite language and nationality barriers through the chemistry between Lee Se Young and Sakaguchi Kentaro.
Compared to concerns about Lee Se Young's Japanese speaking ability, when the film aired, the actress was praised by the audience. Lee Se Young's calm voice combined with Sakaguchi's gentleness brought a feeling of excitement and nostalgia to the viewers.
Since the movie is an adaptation, if the ending is kept true, the main couple will have a happy ending. However, since the female lead is currently engaged to someone else, if she gets back together with Jungo, there is a high chance that both of them will have to go through a difficult period.
