That is the historical relic of the Provisional Provincial Party Committee Headquarters of Bac Lieu Province in 1945 - 1946. This house is associated with the August 1945 revolutionary event of Bac Lieu Provincial Party Committee.
According to documents of Bac Lieu Provincial Museum: The Provisional Provincial Party Committee Headquarters of Bac Lieu in 1945-1946 was a house built by the French in the 1920s; the scale was one ground floor, one upper floor, in the style of a Western villa. The construction time was equivalent to the current Bac Lieu prince's house.
The Provisional Provincial Party Committee headquarters was formerly the house of Carrie - Clerk of the French colonial court in Bac Lieu - located at the corner of 30/4 street at address 09, ward 3, Bac Lieu city, next to the Ward 3 People's Committee and the Bac Lieu City People's Court.
Carrie's house has a campus of 417.60m2, of which the construction area is 127m2, the floor area is 130.7m2 and the roof area is 132.4m2.
Carrie's house was built in the style of a Western villa, quite large at that time, with a yard and a solid iron fence in front. The roof was covered with ancient Western tiles, the walls were made of sturdy bricks and mortar, and the architectural details and decorative motifs were in harmony, creating an ancient and luxurious look for the overall architecture of the house.
With its ancient architectural values, Carrie's house is listed as a typical ancient house of the province and was ranked as a provincial historical relic by the People's Committee of Bac Lieu province in 2013.
According to the relic management hierarchy, the house is a provincial relic managed and exploited by the People's Committee of Bac Lieu City. Although located right in the center of Bac Lieu City (opposite the old Bac Lieu City Police Station, only 50m from Ward 3 People's Committee, only 100m from Bac Lieu City People's Court), according to the report of the City People's Committee, the house was encroached upon by people and seriously degraded beyond repair.
Previously, on May 26, 2022, Bac Lieu city held a meeting to collect opinions from retired officials in the city about the demolition of the temporary Provincial Party Committee headquarters relic site on the grounds that this relic site has seriously degraded, posing a danger to people living around this area.
According to the People's Committee of Bac Lieu city, by 2024, due to the impact of time and nature, the relic has seriously degraded and cannot be restored or embellished, so it must be dismantled.
The People's Committee of Bac Lieu city built a memorial stele to commemorate the historical event of the provincial Party Committee and educate revolutionary traditions to cadres, party members, people of all walks of life and the young generation.
According to the design, the memorial stele has a base 6m wide, 3m wide and 4.1m high with a reinforced concrete and granite structure. Behind the memorial stele is a bas-relief depicting the image of the provisional Provincial Party Committee headquarters.
Thus, the house associated with the historical event of Bac Lieu province officially no longer exists even though it was once recognized as a provincial relic.
