On September 12, speaking with reporters, Mr. Luu Ba Mac - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lang Son province - said that the Ngom Sau cave archaeological site (Bang Mac commune, Chi Lang district, Lang Son province) has just been ranked as a national monument by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
According to information from the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lang Son province, Nguom Sau cave is an archaeological relic located in Gia Loc commune, Chi Lang district (now Bang Mac commune). This relic was previously ranked at the provincial level according to Decision No. 2284/QD-UBND dated December 21, 2024 of the Chairman of Lang Son Provincial People's Committee.
Nguom Sau Cave is one of the caves in the limestone mountain range with typical Karst characteristics of Vietnam.
Through preliminary assessment, experts commented that the Nguom Sau Cave archaeological site not only contains archaeological value but also has an important meaning for the study of primitive, geological, and geological archaeology, demonstrated by the discovery of many fossils on the cave ceiling.
Therefore, this is considered a " rare" archaeological site, not only in Lang Son but also in the Northern region of Vietnam.
Nguyet Sau Cave has been studied and confirmed by scientists as an ancient relic containing animal fossils from the late Pleistocene period, followed by the Bac Son culture. After 3 explorations, experts have collected many artifacts associated with the residential history of Bac Son cultural residents.
These discoveries demonstrate a period of human formation and development during the Bac Son period, and at the same time affirm that Chi Lang in particular and Lang Son in general were once the places of residence of the ancient people in Vietnam.
In July 2025, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Lang Son province and related units completed the dossier. On September 9, 2025, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism issued a decision to rank Nguom Sau Cave as a national monument.
