On August 25, the Ministry of Home Affairs chaired a National Workshop to prepare for the 18th ASEAN Migration Workers' Forum (AFML).
Speaking at the workshop, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Cao Huy generalized that Vietnam is a country with an abundant labor force and is considered diligent and hard-working. According to statistics in 2024, the Vietnamese labor force aged 15 and over will reach 53 million people, including more than half a million workers working abroad under contracts.
According to the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Vietnamese workers have worked in 43 countries and territories around the world, including many countries with good income and working conditions. In the context of global integration, Vietnamese workers continue to face fierce competition in the labor market.
With the goal of better protecting the rights of migratory workers, Deputy Minister Cao Huy said that Vietnam is making efforts to implement domestic policies and guidelines to protect and promote the rights of foreign workers to Vietnam and Vietnamese workers to work abroad.
Completing policies on human resource development, improving the quality of training and skills development, enhancing regional and international cooperation, including efforts to promote the implementation of the activities of the ASEAN Commission on Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Migration Workers (ACMW).
As a proactive, active and responsible member country in ASEAN, Vietnam has implemented regional commitments in the field of migration labor with many initiatives that have been highly appreciated by international and regional countries such as: Research and evaluation of Laws and policies on labor migration management in ASEAN; guiding ASEAN on integrating gender in labor and employment policies; promoting regional research on supporting migrants returning to reintegrate into the labor market...
These efforts are and will contribute to helping Vietnam and ASEAN member countries learn and share many experiences and policies towards improving the qualifications of workers in general to improve competitiveness and increase resilience of the domestic and foreign labor markets to rapid changes in the world - the Deputy Minister emphasized.
The national workshop to prepare for the 18th ASEAN Migration Workers' Forum with the theme " Accelerating action towards Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on safe migration and decent employment for Migration Workers in ASEAN" continues the annual activities of Vietnam and other countries to prepare for the Regional Migration Workers' Forum to be held in September this year in Malaysia.
