Over 66,500 workers quit or change jobs
At Phu Tan Industrial Park (Phu Tan Ward, Thu Dau Mot City), hundreds of workers decided to quit their jobs at a wood company. Vo Van Thanh (32 years old, from Ca Mau) is one of the workers who quit their jobs at the wood company to find work at another company.
“I have worked at H.S Company (specializing in wood products) for 7 years. In previous years, the company paid salaries in full, but this year the company paid salaries late. Some of my colleagues and I decided to quit this company to find new, better jobs,” Thanh shared.
Binh Duong Employment Service Center said that in the first 9 months of 2024, the total number of people applying for unemployment benefits in the whole province was 66,500 people.
According to analysis by the Binh Duong Employment Service Center, the number of workers whose labor contracts have ended under the age of 35 is 33,456, and over the age of 35 is 33,062. The Center has provided job counseling and referrals to 70,000 people in the first months of the year and job referrals to 40,368 people receiving unemployment benefits.
The number of people who quit their jobs and change jobs are mainly unskilled workers.
Through analysis, the number of people who quit their jobs and change jobs is mainly unskilled workers. The number of trained workers, skilled workers, and workers with practice certificates only accounts for a small percentage. Many young people who change jobs see this as an opportunity to experience and learn more. A new working environment, with changes, reduces boredom and stereotypes. Changing jobs also helps young workers gain new knowledge and develop multiple skills.
According to Binh Duong Employment Service Center, there are job-hopping workers who want stability. Most of them quit their jobs to find other jobs because their previous jobs did not match their abilities and they wanted a higher salary. The benefits are not really attractive. Others quit their jobs because they do not have a specific direction for the future, do not know what they really like, what they want to pursue and try. In addition, there are workers who have worked for many years and want to rest and return to work after a while.
Employees quitting and job-hopping first of all affect business operations. Binh Duong Employment Service Center said that some businesses also expressed concerns about employees and workers frequently job-hopping, and at the same time, faced difficulties in handing over work when employees left.
A representative of a garment manufacturing company in Thuan An City said that he was haunted by the situation of workers quitting their jobs and job-hopping. Especially in the last 2 years, a large number of workers quit their jobs to receive one-time social insurance. This affected the production plan of the company. Moreover, recruiting new workers is also more difficult at this time.
For employees, job-hopping opens up new opportunities. However, it also means they face the risk of career instability. Or they may lose out on promotion opportunities, long-term benefits, or company benefits. Next, the lack of consistency in their career can make it difficult for them to convince employers of their long-term commitment. Therefore, some job-hoppers have to spend a long time finding a suitable job again.
Businesses change recruitment plans
“Businesses are gradually changing their recruitment strategies. They do not announce massive recruitment like before, this is to avoid employees thinking that the business is in dire need of workers and hesitate in choosing. Therefore, when employees change jobs, they should consider carefully, so that after quitting, they can find a new job immediately, avoiding work interruptions and risks when looking for a new job,” said Mr. Tran Ngoc Luong - Director of Duc Luong Labor Supply Company.
