Pyka, an aviation technology company based in California (USA), has just introduced a new transportation drone platform called DropShip, designed to perform supply and transportation missions in high-danger environments without human direct participation.
This device was demonstrated in a test with the US armed forces and rescue teams, to demonstrate its ability to operate automatically in airspace at risk of conflict.
According to the developer, DropShip can undertake many tasks such as tactical supply, equipment transportation, medical evacuation support or logistics provision in areas that are too dangerous for employees to access.
DropShip uses a hybrid engine system, allowing to carry a maximum of 227 kg of cargo over a distance of over 1,600 km.
When unloaded, the aircraft can travel more than 5,600 km. The open source mission control computer integrates loads up to about 295 kg, creating adaptability to many different missions, from military to humanitarian relief.
One of the notable points of DropShip is its ability to approach targets secretly.
The electric fan system operates smoothly, helping the device reduce the possibility of being detected when entering enemy areas or dangerous areas.
The aircraft has a cruising speed of about 139 km/h and can increase to 166 km/h when necessary.
In addition to transportation functions, this platform can also carry intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance equipment to serve information gathering activities.
This makes DropShip a useful tool in high-risk missions, where the use of traditional means can be dangerous to humans.
Another advantage is the ability to take off and land on many different types of terrain such as soil, gravel, asphalt roads or areas without standard runways.
This flexibility helps the aircraft adapt to frontline logistics operations or in natural disaster and emergency conditions.
According to Pyka, DropShip is positioned as a low-cost solution to deal with asymmetric threats, while reducing risks for soldiers and rescue workers when on duty in the most dangerous areas.
