At the program, Mr. Phan Thanh Nghi, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Quang Ninh province, said that Quang Ninh has a nearly 250 km long coastline and a fishery of more than 6,100 km2. This is the place of life and livelihood of thousands of fishing vessels and more than 10,000 fishermen across the sea.
Fishermen operate in many forms: Cooperatives, teams, fishing unions, households. Of which, there are 2 cooperatives with 12 ships and nearly 100 workers; 10 teams with 112 ships operating offshore with more than 370 people; 5 unions with 135 ships and over 740 workers; along with 17 production linkage models with up to 275 ships and 1,800 coastal workers.
Affirming the significance of the program With fishermen lighting up the above lights, the leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Environment hope that the gifts at the program will not only help people feel more secure in their production, but also be a sharing, encouragement, and strength for people to confidently stick to the sea, continue to go offshore to work.
The program "Lighting up the sea with fishermen" was launched in early 2023. To date, the program has been implemented in coastal provinces and cities across the country, with a total implementation cost of more than 30 billion VND. Quang Ninh is the 24th locality that the newspaper organizes this program.
On this occasion, the Organizing Committee presented 100 gifts to fishermen, each worth more than 4 million VND; 4 tablets and 20 scholarships (each worth about 3 million VND) to children of fishermen in difficult circumstances who have overcome difficulties to study well.
