On May 16, the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board said that the project to build infrastructure and improve the environment of the Tham Luong - Ben Cat - Nuoc Len canal with a total capital of more than 9,000 billion VND currently reaches about 79% of the construction volume.
In which, embankment items and connecting culvert and discharge gate systems reached about 98%; traffic and infrastructure items reached about 59%.
To date, the entire route has been opened to traffic for about 37.5km, many sections have been asphalted, planted trees, paved sidewalks and completed connection with existing infrastructure.
The Urban Infrastructure Board aims to complete the entire project by the end of 2026.

However, the project progress is being affected by many obstacles. Currently, there are still 9 cases that have not handed over the site, and some locations are obstructed by people, so the contractor cannot deploy.
In addition, the relocation of technical infrastructure has not been completed, especially medium and low voltage power lines, substations and telecommunications cables within the project scope.
Difficulties in the source of construction materials also put great pressure on the construction progress. According to the Urban Infrastructure Board, the prices of construction materials and gasoline and oil are constantly fluctuating, while the supply of asphalt concrete is scarce. In addition, surplus landfills have not yet been approved for location by competent authorities.
To remove difficulties, the Urban Infrastructure Board is coordinating with localities to definitively handle cases that have not been handed over land and accelerate the relocation of technical infrastructure. At the same time, the unit has also sent documents to relevant departments and branches requesting guidance on handling the issue of excess soil dumps and materials for construction.
The Urban Infrastructure Board said that it will continue to tighten the progress of contractors, regularly inspect construction sites, review human resources, equipment, materials and organize meetings to remind slow-progressing construction units.
For contractors who do not improve progress, the Board will issue notices of contract violations, impose penalties according to regulations, and even consider transferring volumes to better construction units in the joint venture.

Similarly, the project to dredge, build infrastructure and improve the environment on the North bank of Doi canal with a total capital of more than 7,300 billion VND is also facing difficulties with land.
The project has compensation, support and resettlement costs of nearly 6,000 billion VND, affecting 1,604 households.
To date, 1,480 households have handed over land, and 123 cases have not been handed over. Of which, Chanh Hung ward still has 57 cases and Phu Dinh ward still has 66 cases.
The Urban Infrastructure Project Management Board said that it is coordinating with local authorities to focus on land recovery, striving to hand over the entire site of all 3 bidding packages in May 2026 to ensure construction progress.
The project is divided into 3 construction packages. In which, package No. 1 reached about 36% of the volume, expected to be completed in December 2026; package No. 2 reached about 52%, expected to be completed in September 2026. Package No. 3 has completed contractor selection and is expected to be completed in 2027.
According to the Urban Infrastructure Board, in addition to the site, the existing technical infrastructure system, especially medium and low voltage electricity, which has not been relocated, is greatly affecting the construction progress.
Currently, the unit is coordinating with the Construction Investment Project Management Board of Chanh Hung and Phu Dinh wards to prepare, appraise and approve technical infrastructure compensation dossiers.
