A group of 11 students invited each other to stroll in the stream area of Tien Phuoc commune (Da Nang), while wading through water, 3 students unfortunately slipped into a deep pit, causing 2 female students to drown and die.
On the evening of March 26, Mr. Nguyen Hung Anh - Chairman of Tien Phuoc Commune People's Committee, Da Nang City confirmed that a serious drowning incident had just occurred in the area, causing two 9th grade students to die.
The incident happened at about 3:30 pm on the same day. A group of 11 students (including 10 9th grade students and 1 9th grade student) from Vo Thi Sau Secondary School invited each other to stroll in the Tray area, in Tien Phu Dong village, Tien Phuoc commune.
Here, 10 students held hands to wade across the stream (the other one sat on the bank). However, while moving, 3 students including Bao Ngoc, Ha Vy and My Kieu suddenly slipped and fell into a deep water area with fast currents.
In a moment of panic, the remaining students tried to hold hands and pull their friends up but only rescued Bao Ngoc. Two children Thai Thi Ha Vy and Banh Thi My Kieu (both 15 years old, residing in Tien Phuoc commune) due to exhaustion were submerged by the water.
Immediately after hearing the cries for help, local people quickly arrived at the scene, made efforts to bring the children ashore and perform first aid on the spot. However, a miracle did not happen, both victims died.
Functional agencies are continuing to investigate and clarify the cause of the incident.
