Gratitude and love for Uncle Ho
On April 30, 1975, the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign was completely victorious, liberating the South, reunifying the country; completing the historical mission of heroically starting and gloriously ending the 30-year resistance war to regain national independence and reunify the country.
According to documents of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of Ho Chi Minh City, from November 15 to 21, 1975, at the Independence Palace (now the Reunification Hall), the Political Consultation Conference for National Reunification took place. It was an important political event in the first year of Saigon - Gia Dinh being liberated, implementing the will to unify the country of the Vietnamese people.
In the spirit of that important Political Consultation, the people of the South and North made efforts to prepare for the unified National Assembly election of the whole country. On April 25, 1976, the people of Saigon - Gia Dinh City and the whole country enthusiastically went to vote for the National Assembly of the unified Vietnam.
At the first session, the National Assembly of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam considered and discussed that: The people of Saigon - Gia Dinh City always express infinite love for President Ho Chi Minh and earnestly desire the city to bear his name; in the long and arduous revolutionary struggle, Saigon - Gia Dinh City has constantly promoted the resilient and indomitable tradition of our nation, made many outstanding feats of arms, worthy of the honor of bearing the name of the great President Ho Chi Minh.
On July 2, 1976, the National Assembly decided to officially name Saigon - Gia Dinh City Ho Chi Minh City. This is the most worthy and noble reward that the Party, State and people of the whole country have given to the Party Committee and people of the City.
This historic resolution has responded to the sacred feelings of a revolutionary people's collective, although the situation of burning oil is still firmly attached to the great leader who is the embodiment of the immortal Fatherland, allowing the City to "go ahead and back" to express eternal gratitude and love for Uncle Ho of ours.
The National Assembly's Resolution is a regular source of encouragement for the City's people in the struggle to move forward, building a socialist city with modern industry, modern agriculture in the suburbs, a socialist trading port, advanced culture, science, and technology, promoting great potential, contributing worthyly to the cause of building a rich and strong socialist Fatherland.
A brilliant milestone in the hearts of every citizen
According to Dr. Nguyen Viet Chuc - Deputy Chairman of the Advisory Council on Culture - Society (Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front), July 2, 1976 will forever be a glorious milestone in the hearts of every citizen. That was the day our National Assembly officially decided to name Saigon - Gia Dinh City Ho Chi Minh City. This has profound political, historical and humanistic significance, is the crystallization of the spirit of boundless gratitude, sacred and steadfast feelings of the entire Party, people and army towards the genius leader of the Vietnamese nation.
The name Ho Chi Minh City has transformed into a very powerful endogenous resource, arousing deep pride and great sense of responsibility in the hearts of all classes of people" - Dr. Nguyen Viet Chuc emphasized.
Dr. Le Trung Kien (Institute of Ho Chi Minh and Party Leaders, Ho Chi Minh National Academy of Politics) shared that from Nha Rong Wharf, in 1911, patriotic youth Nguyen Tat Thanh (later President Ho Chi Minh) left to find a way to save the country. By the spring of 1975, our country was completely liberated, North - South reunited, mountains and rivers connected in one strip. And in 1976, Saigon - Gia Dinh City was renamed Ho Chi Minh City. That was the rendezvous point of patriotism.
