An Giang completes provincial planning in a synchronous and national-one direction
According to the report of the Department of Construction at the 1st An Giang Provincial Party Congress, implementing the 2017 Planning Law, An Giang province is focusing on completing the provincial planning system for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050. Synchronization with national planning and planning of the Mekong Delta is not only a mandatory requirement but also a strategic step, a long-term development orientation of the locality.

After the administrative merger, An Giang has an area of over 9,888 km2 and a population of nearly 5 million people - leading the entire Mekong Delta region. The province holds a special geographical position, bordering Cambodia with nearly 148 km of border and nearly 200 km of coastline. This is a favorable condition for economic, trade, national defense and security development.
Currently, the whole province has 38 urban areas (according to the old criteria) with general planning approved, the zoning plan ratio is 36.78% compared to urban construction land. The urbanization rate is about 40%, with many large urban areas such as Long Xuyen, Rach Gia, Phu Quoc, Chau Doc, Ha Tien gradually becoming economic growth poles, creating a driving force for development in the surrounding areas.

Each economic region of the province is also promoting its own advantages: the Long Xuyen Quadrangle focuses on tourism, seaports and agricultural and aquatic product processing for export; the Tay Song Hau region develops processing and mechanical industry for agricultural services; the U Minh Thuong region promotes the agricultural model combining aquaculture and eco-tourism.
However, there are still some shortcomings in the planning work. Many specialized planning areas such as construction and transportation are not synchronized with provincial planning, regional or national planning. Some urban areas are developing rapidly but the technical infrastructure has not kept up, and planning and land management is still lax. Limited investment resources also affect the progress of reviewing, adjusting and establishing new planning projects.
Concentrating resources on dynamic urban development and strengthening regional linkages
Faced with the above situation, An Giang has identified a number of key tasks in the coming time to overcome the shortcomings and promote sustainable development.
The province will continue to review, update and adjust the provincial planning to ensure synchronization with the Mekong Delta planning and the national master plan. This will be an important legal tool for investment orientation, long-term management and development.

The province also focuses on developing dynamic urban areas such as Long Xuyen, Rach Gia, Chau Doc, Ha Tien and Phu Quoc according to the green growth model, smart cities and climate change adaptation. At the same time, focus on investing in synchronous technical infrastructure, effectively connecting with Can Tho City and neighboring provinces to promote regional linkages, develop logistics and trade.
At the same time, An Giang accelerates digitalization in planning work, building a synchronous, transparent planning database system and connecting with the national planning information system. This helps people and businesses easily access information, improve management efficiency and call for investment.
The province also proposed that the Central Government soon complete the related legal system such as the Land Law, Construction Law, Urban and Rural Planning Law... to overcome the current legal overlap. At the same time, it is recommended to receive support in terms of funding, technology, and shared databases to deploy a digital planning system more effectively.
With high political determination, the participation of the entire political system and the consensus of the people, An Giang aims to become a new growth pole of the Mekong Delta by 2030 - a sustainable, modern development, with the ability to spread strongly in the region and deeply integrate with the country and the world.
