On July 2nd, the An Giang Provincial Steering Committee for the exercise organized the opening ceremony of the Tan Hiep commune combat exercise in the defense area in 2026. This is a commune-level pilot exercise to draw experience to synchronously deploy exercises in communes, wards, and special zones in the province in 2026. The exercise takes place in 2 days (July 2-3, 2026).
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Colonel Nguyen Van Hien, Deputy Commander - Chief of Staff of the Provincial Military Command, member of the Exercise Steering Committee, Head of the Provincial Exercise Working Group emphasized that the exercise aims to continue to thoroughly grasp and concretize Resolution No. 28 of the Politburo on building defense zones, Decree No. 21 of the Government on defense zones and Directive No. 06 of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee on organizing defense zone exercises in 2026. At the same time, inspect and evaluate the leadership, direction, and administration capacity of Party committees and authorities; the level of advice of military agencies, police and departments, branches, and mass organizations in operating mechanisms, transferring localities to national defense statuses, organizing preparation and practicing defense operations according to the 2-level local government model.

The exercise is organized with the topic: "Transferring armed forces to combat readiness states, transferring localities to defense states; organizing preparation and practicing defensive operations". The exercise process is operated according to the mechanism of handling situations from low to high, close to the actual situation characteristics of the locality.
To ensure that the drill achieves the set goals and requirements, the Provincial Steering Committee for the drill requests participating forces to uphold the spirit of responsibility, promote the role of advising, operating flexibly, in accordance with principles, closely following situations; strictly comply with regulations on ensuring absolute secrecy and safety of people, weapons, equipment, vehicles and traffic safety throughout the drill process; minimize the impact on production, business and people's lives in the area.

Immediately after the opening ceremony, the forces entered the drill practice according to the program and plan approved by the Provincial Training Steering Committee. During the 2 days, the drill will focus on operating the mechanism and practicing defensive combat contents, handling defense and security situations close to the actual conditions of the locality. Through the drill, it aims to continue to improve the leadership, direction, and administration capacity of Party committees and authorities; the level of advisory and coordination of the armed forces and departments, branches, and mass organizations in performing local defense and military tasks, contributing to building an increasingly solid provincial defense area, meeting the requirements of the task of protecting the Fatherland in the new situation.
