As Lao Dong reported, the heavy rain from July 31 to August 2 caused flash floods and terrible landslides, causing heavy damage to people and property in many mountainous communes of Dien Bien province.
Immediately after the natural disaster occurred, local authorities and police and military forces mobilized maximum human resources and means to focus on responding, searching for missing people, and moving people and property to safety. At the same time, focus on overcoming the consequences to help people soon stabilize their lives.
Accordingly, more than 1,250 military officers, soldiers, police and local forces have been mobilized to participate in overcoming natural disasters and search and rescue.
On August 12, hearing that soldiers of the 82nd Regiment, Division 355 (Military Region 2) were preparing to march back to their units, many people in Pa Vat village, Muong Luan commune temporarily put aside their work and stood along both sides of the road to see off the soldiers.
In each person's hand are bottles of water, rustic gifts but filled with affection. People in the flooded areas said goodbye and sincerely thanked the soldiers who stood side by side in the most difficult days.

The tight handshakes and even the happy eyes expressed deep emotions about the militia. The moment of farewell was short but depicted a complete and touching picture of the strong and steadfast love of the army and people.
Speaking to Lao Dong, Lieutenant Colonel Ngo Quoc Kieu - Deputy Chief of Political Affairs of the 82nd Regiment, Division 355, Military Region 2" said: "On August 12, 60 comrades on duty to help people overcome the consequences of floods in Muong Luan commune mobilized to the unit according to plan".
During the days of overcoming the consequences of floods, officers and soldiers leveled thousands of cubic meters of soil and rock to clear the main roads, searched for and brought all missing people, and coordinated with medical forces to take the injured to treatment facilities.

Ms. Deo Thi Tuyet - Pa Pao village, Muong Luan commune was still moved when talking about the soldiers. "My house is right on a high slope, so there were many landslides during the flood. On August 10, the soldiers of the 82nd Regiment came to help the family with the repair" - Ms. Tuyet said.
According to Ms. Tuyet, the weather was as hot as fire, but the soldiers did not rest. Seeing the sweat-filled shirt backs, everyone felt sorry.
Ms. Lo Vui - Pa Vat village, Muong Luan commune said: "We are very grateful to the soldiers for helping people overcome the consequences of floods. I wish you good health and complete all assigned tasks excellently".

Previously, on August 11, many people in Suoi Lu village, Xa Dung commune also lined up to send off soldiers to their units after overcoming the consequences of floods.
According to statistics, the flood that occurred from July 31 to August 2 in the whole province had 10 deaths and 12 injuries; over 640 houses were damaged, thousands of hectares of rice and crops were washed away and buried; many traffic routes, schools, medical facilities, public works... are estimated to have caused damage of over 700 billion VND.
In recent days, floods and landslides in the North Central and Northern mountainous provinces have killed and left many people missing, houses, schools and maple blossoms were swept away and submerged in mud, affecting local production activities.
