Heavy trucks are struggling
Lao Dong has just published an article reflecting on a series of stone quarries operating vigorously in Tan Thanh commune (Son Duong district). Within less than 4km, 3 quarries of Huy Linh Company Limited, Tu Thanh Phat Dart Company Limited, and Nhat Tan Company Limited are operating vigorously, disrupting people's lives.
In addition to cracked houses and insecurities, the situation of dust pollution, noise, and dense traffic infrastructure is also alarming. The consequences of stone mining activities greatly affect people's lives and activities.
According to PV's records in mid-March 2025, in Tan Thanh commune, a convoy of heavy trucks "carried" rocks from the mines next to each other to National Highway 2C. The main roads in Luc Lieu hamlet, Vinh Son are full of potholes. The road surface is bumpy, dusty and muddy.
One of the households living near the quarry of Huy Linh Company Limited and Nhat Tan Company Limited, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa (name changed upon request) said that the people here have had to face the noise and dust for a long time. Each convoy of trucks ran loudly from morning to night.
"The road from the mine to the national highway requires hundreds of vehicles every day, countless. The road is narrow, vehicles are often congested, causing traffic insecurity. On the village road where cars run very recklessly. People in the hamlet had to install signs and cameras along the road to monitor. Many residential roads in the commune are degraded, also due to quarries," said Ms. Hoa.
About 3km from Vinh Son hamlet, the road leading to Luc Lieu hamlet was also road- wagged. Heavy trucks carrying rocks from the Dao Tu Thanh Phat Company Limited mine on the peeling road. The nearly 2km unique road is full of potholes, potholes, and cracks. Trucks from the quarry run along the axis road leading to the national highway. This is also the main axis with many schools with a large volume of traffic. The lack of heavy trucks causes serious traffic insecurity and infrastructure degradation.

Worry about the environment and livelihoods
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, living next to quarries makes people worry about their health. The house is always covered in dust. The family had to invest in installing a shield, spending tens of millions of VND to reduce the situation of dust intrusion. Living in such an environment is very dangerous, especially for children and the elderly. Not to mention, the crushers work continuously, so there is always noise. The roaring sound of the engine stirred up an entire peaceful countryside.
Mr. Nguyen Cong Minh's family (Vinh Son hamlet) had to abandon 6 hectares of prime land due to the thick rock and dust. The cultivated land has been left vacant for a long time, making life more difficult.
"My cultivated land is located near the crushers. I used to grow corn but the dust was so thick that it could not grow. Many families have switched to growing acacia but the trees have not yet developed. Therefore, I had to abandon it, my livelihood was affected, so I was very upset. I am considering suing in court to reclaim my rights," Mr. Minh said indignantly.

Talking to reporters, Mr. Phung Ngoc Vinh - Chairman of Tan Thanh Commune People's Committee said that the locality regularly requires mines to operate safely. The District People's Committee and the Department also regularly inspect.
"The mines of Tu Thanh Phat Duro Company Limited and Huy Linh Company Limited have been administratively sanctioned. Some violations related to business and land from 2023 and 2024. The authority has a deadline, so there will be reports to superiors for consideration and resolution," the leader added.
When the reporter requested access to reports and documents on inspection and punishment of the quarries, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Tan Thanh commune said that he would provide them later.
