On August 25, the People's Committee of Ia Dreh commune (Gia Lai province) said that a drowning incident had just occurred in the area, the victim was N.H.N (born in 2013, residing in Nong Siu hamlet, Ia Dreh commune).
Previously, at around 1:00 p.m. on August 24, N and 4 friends went to the Ko Sum stream area to catch snails but unfortunately fell into the water and drowned.
After hearing the news, the family and the villagers organized a search. However, after more than 1 hour, N was found but had died.
Local authorities have visited, encouraged and supported the family in arranging the child's funeral.
It is known that in the western communes of Gia Lai, the rate of drowning children of school age is quite high. During the summer vacation, many children often follow their friends to the fields, rivers and streams to catch snails and fish for a living, leading to tragic accidents.
The provincial government has requested the education sector to strengthen swimming and life skills for students to minimize the drowning of children in the coming time.
