On the afternoon of November 8, the new Secretary of Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee Nghiem Xuan Thanh and an interdisciplinary inspection team inspected the Cu Hin Pass area on Nguyen Tat Thanh Street, through Phuoc Dong Commune, Nha Trang City.
This is where a multi-ton rock appeared on the cliff at Cu Hin Pass, causing vehicles to worry when moving and fear that it might roll onto the road.
According to records, a large rock weighing tens of tons, located on a cliff at a height of 30m, about 25m from the edge of the road, has eroded its base and is at risk of rolling onto the road, posing a danger to road users, especially in the continuous rainy weather in Nha Trang City for many days.
At the scene, Mr. Nghiem Xuan Thanh requested relevant departments to immediately come up with a plan to relocate the electric poles and power grid system below to ensure the construction and handling of this large block of rock within 24 hours.
Authorities plan to close the Cu Hin Pass, the road connecting Nha Trang to Cam Ranh Airport, after 5:00 p.m. this afternoon, to deal with this large rock.
Mr. Nghiem Xuan Thanh directed the forces to coordinate to divert traffic and warn people.
"If it is not completed within 24 hours, the relevant departments must take responsibility, and the Provincial Party Secretary will be responsible to the people," Mr. Nghiem Xuan Thanh emphasized.
Also at the scene, Nha Trang City Chairman Tran Minh Chien informed that after 5 p.m. today, the electricity and telecommunications industry in Khanh Hoa will have to relocate the power lines before the authorities handle the rock. After that, an excavator will move to approach the rock on the top of the mountain and push the rock down onto the road.
Mr. Tran Minh Chien affirmed that all forces will focus on working overnight, trying to complete the task of bringing the rock down the mountain tomorrow morning and ensure traffic flow after 6:30 tomorrow morning.
The unsteady rock lay there for a month without anyone handling it.
Before the head of Khanh Hoa province inspected, local authorities had inspected. However, the handling of this rock was not carried out due to overlapping management work.
Specifically, the Department of Transport of Khanh Hoa province came to survey the scene. The working group said that the area where the rock was located was in a production forest land plot of a local resident.
However, there is a current difficulty that the rock is located outside the road corridor managed by the department. Therefore, this agency has proposed that the Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee assign Phuoc Dong commune to coordinate with specialized agencies of Nha Trang city to develop a treatment plan.
After the traffic department finished checking, Nha Trang City authorities also organized an inspection and reported to Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee. Regarding the handling of the large rock on the pass, the city assessed that this was "beyond its ability to handle".
