Lao Cai Secretary inspects Sa Pa airport project worth 7,000 billion VND

Lao Cai - Through on-site inspection, the Provincial Party Secretary requested businesses to carefully study the land fund and route connecting from the airport to Sa Pa.

On the afternoon of July 12, Mr. Trinh Xuan Truong, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Lao Cai Provincial People's Council inspected and grasped the implementation of the planning of construction investment projects in Mau A, Dong Cuong, and Bao Ha communes.

For the Sa Pa Airport Project (located in Bao Ha commune, the old Bao Yen district) approved by the Prime Minister for investment policy under the Decision to adjust at the end of 2024, with a total investment of nearly 7,000 billion VND, under the form of public-private partnership (PPP); of which, the state capital accounts for over 49%; land use demand is expected to be 371 hectares.

The Sa Pa Airport project consists of 2 phases. Phase 1: Build Sa Pa airport to level 4C, with a capacity of 1.5 million passengers/year, with a runway of 2,400 m long, 45 m wide, material sidewalks on both sides 7.5 m wide on each side, ensuring the operation of code C aircraft (Airbus A321, Boeing 737 or equivalent).

Phase 2: Complete construction of items of the Sa Pa airport project to reach a capacity of 3 million passengers/year. To achieve this capacity, it is necessary to complete the construction of 2 connecting taxiways, add a parallel taxiway connecting to the aircraft parking lot; add 3 code C and equivalent aircraft parking locations; expand the passenger terminal to reach a capacity of 3 million passengers/year.

Through on-site inspection and listening to reports from sectors and localities, the Lao Cai Provincial Party Secretary requested businesses to carefully study land funds and connecting routes from the airport to Sa Pa; consider the airport not only a transport infrastructure but also a growth pole, expanding the space for international tourism and trade development.

Mr. Trinh Xuan Truong emphasized that in the coming time, the province will study the entire expressway from Sa Pa airport to Sa Pa commune and plan the entire route along the Red River to maximize potential and advantages, creating development momentum.
