In recent days, due to the impact of prolonged heavy rain in Lao Cai province, there has been a lot of damage to the irrigation works system, directly affecting hundreds of hectares of agricultural land.
In particular, Lam Thuong, Luc Yen, Tan Linh, Khanh Hoa, Phuc Loi and Muong Lai communes (formerly communes of Luc Yen district, Yen Bai province) had nearly 70 damaged works with hundreds of locations of canals, ditches collapsed, washed away, and unable to operate. This greatly affects people's production.

According to statistics, there are currently 133 large, medium and small reservoirs in the old Yen Bai province. Of which, there are 13 large reservoirs with a capacity of 3 million m3 or more or with a dam height of 15m; 26 medium-water reservoirs with a capacity of 500 thousand m3 or more or with a dam height of 10-15m and 94 small reservoirs with a capacity of less than 500 thousand m3 or a dam with a height of less than 10m.
Immediately after the flood, Tan Phu One Member Co., Ltd. mobilized all forces and means from branches, coordinated with local businesses to urgently reinforce and repair. Excavators, transport vehicles, welding machines, steel pipes and human resources are deployed according to the "4 on-site" motto. The total initial cost of repairing more than 70 affected irrigation works is estimated at over 3 billion VND.

Ms. Bui Thi Thanh Ha - Head of Technical Department of Tan Phu Company - said: "We prioritize handling areas at risk of white loss. Many sections had to be reinforced with stone embankments and poured concrete right in unfavorable weather conditions. All efforts are made to ensure that people have water to sow on time".
At the Trai Lan dam irrigation project, Bao Ai commune, Lao Cai province (formerly Mong Son commune, Yen Binh district, Yen Bai province), storm No. 3 in 2024 caused unsafety to the dam body. Currently, the project has been repaired and returned to a safe state.
Mr. Nguyen Tan Phuc - Director of Lam Phuc Consulting, Investment and Construction Company Limited - the repair contractor - said: "Before construction, the dam base completely collapsed, the dam body had cracks, water seeped in and moved slightly. To date, we have repaired about 97% and expect to complete it all in the next 5 days".

Mr. Nguyen Thai Binh - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lao Cai province - commented that the province's irrigation system, especially in mountainous districts, is under great pressure due to climate change and deterioration after many years of exploitation.
"After the natural disaster, we coordinated with Tan Phu Company and the People's Committees of communes to inspect and review damaged works, and develop a plan to overcome them in order of priority. In the long term, it is necessary to invest in upgrading and solidifying main canals and reservoirs at the source, Mr. Binh emphasized.
