On the evening of June 26, speaking with Lao Dong, the leader of the People's Committee of Vinh Thanh district (Binh Dinh province) said that he had directed the Chairman of the People's Committee of Vinh Kim commune to immediately stop cutting down the acacia trees in the commune's office premises, which occurred right before the time of the province's merger.
"I have directed Vinh Kim commune to report, explain and clarify the responsibility for arbitrarily cutting down some trees planted in the commune headquarters. The district's viewpoint is to strictly handle violating officials, not to cover up", said the leader of Vinh Thanh district.

According to the leader of Vinh Thanh District People's Committee, trees planted in the premises of the Vinh Kim Commune People's Committee's office are state-managed assets, aiming to create shade and improve the environment. Therefore, the People's Committee of Vinh Kim commune arbitrarily cut down a number of trees in the headquarters premises is against regulations.
"Previously, these trees were planted by commune officials. When grown in the head office, it is public property, cannot be picked and sold arbitrarily. Realizing that the commune cadres are still too poor, I thought that I would grow them before and now sell them. Through initial information, the incident involved a Vice Chairman of the People's Council of Vinh Kim commune," informed the leader of the People's Committee of Vinh Thanh district.
