Series of drivers were punished
In recent days, a series of passenger vehicle drivers have been fined by the Traffic Police for using cell phones and not wearing seat belts while driving. Notably, these acts were discovered when the authorities extracted surveillance cameras installed on the vehicles.
Most recently, on December 6, Highway Traffic Control Patrol Team No. 6 (Team 6, Department 6, Traffic Police Department, Ministry of Public Security) issued a fine to driver L.T.V (born in 1977, residing in Di An City, Binh Duong Province) for using a phone while driving.
Accordingly, driver L.V.T was driving a passenger car with license plate 50H-448.XX carrying about 20 passengers on the Phan Thiet - Dau Giay highway. When the traffic police asked to stop the car for inspection and extracted data from the vehicle's monitoring device, they discovered that the driver was using a mobile phone while driving on the highway.
The Commander of the Road and Railway Traffic Patrol and Control Guidance Department (Department 6, Traffic Police Department) informed and counted that in about 3 days (December 4-6), the unit had penalized more than 20 cases of passenger car drivers using their phones while driving.
For the above violation, the driver will be fined from 2 to 3 million VND and have his/her driving license revoked for 1 to 3 months.
Also according to the Commander of Room 6, Traffic Police Department, through extracting surveillance cameras on many passenger buses, the authorities discovered a number of cases where drivers used their phones for long periods of time even though they were driving at high speed.
In addition, there were a number of other cases where drivers were found not wearing seat belts while driving.
Raising awareness and responsibility of drivers
The habit of using cell phones while driving by many car drivers, especially passenger car drivers, poses a high risk of leading to accidents.
According to the authorities, when extracting surveillance cameras on some passenger vehicles, they discovered that drivers were holding their phones to watch videos and play video games while driving on the highway. In particular, there was a driver who was driving a sleeper bus carrying dozens of people but only used his elbow to "turn" the steering wheel, while his hand was holding the phone to surf social networks.
"This is a very dangerous behavior, disregarding the lives of yourself and the passengers in the vehicle, as well as other traffic participants" - Colonel Nguyen Quang Nhat, Head of the Department of Traffic Accident Investigation and Resolution (Traffic Police Department), shared.
All violations, when detected, will be strictly handled. At the same time, the traffic police force will also send notices to business owners and vehicle owners to take measures to discipline drivers.
Traffic police recommend that every driver needs to raise their awareness when driving to ensure safety for themselves and others. If they feel sleepy or tired while driving, they need to stop at a rest stop immediately.
For passengers in the car, if you discover the driver using the phone while driving, please immediately report to the authorities via hotline 19008099 or send images of the violation via Zalo or the application.
