The Office of the People's Committee of Can Tho City has just announced the conclusion of Vice Chairman of the People's Committee Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep at the meeting to approve the report proposing directions for preparing investment procedures for the Maspero tourist area construction project (old Soc Trang central area).
According to reports from the Department of Construction and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho, the project is in the city's construction planning and tourism development planning. The project is expected to include items such as night markets, pedestrian streets, food streets and riverbank decoration.
Can Tho City People's Committee assigned the City Civil and Industrial Construction Investment Project Management Board to conduct actual surveys and complete the overall design plan, ensuring synchronization with the regional landscape. The project focuses on investing in pedestrian bridges combined with embankments and riverside steps, architecture creating highlights, showing the characteristics of Soc Trang land.
At the same time, study the organization of space for the two Ly Thuong Kiet and Dien Bien Phu streets, arrange parking lots, connect technical infrastructure, and ensure traffic and environmental safety.
The project is proposed to be divided into phases of investment, in which phase 1 uses about 20 billion VND from the budget, phase 2 calls for socialization. The budget capital must ensure compliance with Resolution No. 191/NQ-HDND dated August 29, 2025 of the People's Council of Can Tho City.
Can Tho City People's Committee requests to urgently complete the investment policy proposal report and submit it to the Standing Committee of the City People's Committee for consideration before March 20.
