According to Can Tho City People's Committee, the undergrounding of telecommunications cable networks aims to contribute to urban embellishment, improve aesthetics, and build the city's landscape; gradually meeting the development requirements of the central urban area of the Mekong Delta. The city will focus on building a system of underground technical infrastructure works for common use to install wires, cables, and pipelines to ensure safety, efficiency, and on schedule.
Accordingly, in the period 2026 - 2028, Can Tho will pilot the synchronous undergrounding of telecommunications cables and power cables at newly built traffic road projects, residential areas, urban areas, combined with urban embellishment plans. Thereby, assessing feasibility, completing coordination solutions and building appropriate mechanisms and policies to expand deployment on central roads in the following periods.
Can Tho City People's Committee sets a target to unsubmerge from 80% - 100% of the telecommunications cable system in urban development areas, renovated and newly built roads. The pilot phase 2026 - 2028 is expected to unsubmerge the telecommunications cable network with a total length of 26.2km.
According to the expected list, the 2 key routes selected for piloting include Cach Mang Thang Tam road (section from Hung Vuong roundabout to km7 pillar of National Highway 91) with a length of 7km and the Western Ring Road of Can Tho City (connecting National Highway 91 to National Highway 61C) with a length of 19.2km, using public investment capital.
The city also requires that the undergrounding of telecommunications technical infrastructure must ensure compliance with regulations, sufficient conditions for common use for telecommunications enterprises, serving current national defense and security requirements and having reserves for the future. At the same time, ensuring infrastructure monopoly prevention, applying reasonable management, exploitation, and lease mechanisms, creating conditions for people to choose telecommunications service providers according to their needs.
