Recently, the People's Committee of Can Tho City sent an official dispatch to the Ministry of Construction reporting on the list of registered works and projects eligible for construction and inauguration to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of National Day (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025).
Accordingly, Can Tho has 2 projects eligible to register to start construction, including: Housing project in the Trade Union Institution Area in An Nghiep Industrial Park and O Mon 4 Thermal Power Plant Project.
In particular, the Housing Project in the Trade Union Institution Area in An Nghiep Industrial Park is invested by Aranya Vietnam Joint Stock Company. The scale includes 6 social housing buildings (3 9-storey buildings, 2 12-storey buildings, 1 15-storey building) with about 1,050 apartments and 1 commercial housing building with no more than 15 floors. The total investment is more than 874 billion VND, located in Soc Trang ward.
The O Mon 4 Thermal Power Plant project is invested by the Vietnam National Industry - Energy Group.
O Mon 4 Thermal Power Plant has an installed capacity of 1,050 MW ± 10%, connected to the national power system at 500kV power supply. Mixed-cycle gas turbine technology, using gas fuel from the Lot B gas field. The total investment is more than VND 27,668 billion, located in Phuoc Thoi ward.
These two projects registered to start online television with the Government on August 19.
Informing at the press conference of the second quarter of 2025, Mr. Ha Vu Son - Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Can Tho City said that for O Mon 4 Thermal Power Plant, there are 2 conditions that must be completed to start construction: waiting for the issuance of land use certificates to the investor and the issuance of construction permits.
The Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Can Tho City stated that this is a key project of the country and of Can Tho City to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of National Day.
According to the report of the Department of Industry and Trade, in the first 6 months of 2025, the Industrial Production Index (IIP) of Can Tho City grew by over 8% over the same period. Total retail sales of goods and service revenue is estimated at VND 170,528 billion, equivalent to USD 6,821 million, reaching 52.3% over the same period, up 17.7%.
Export turnover is estimated at 2,589 million USD, reaching 48.5% of the estimate, up 4.86% over the same period. Commercial electricity output is estimated at 3,235.91 million kWh, reaching 44.6% of the plan, up 2.14% over the same period. (average 18 million kWh per day in the city). Power savings in the first 6 months of 2025 are estimated at 77.19 million kWh.
