On September 9, Chau Pha Commune Police said they were coordinating with the Office of the Ho Chi Minh City Police Investigation Agency (PC01) to clarify the incident of a mini gas tank exploding that killed a baby.
According to initial information, at around 6:00 p.m. on September 3, Ms. T.T.H.L (from Can Tho) used a mini gas stove to cook in the rented room, then packed it on the porch for the whole family to have dinner. At this time, another person in the family, Ms. T.T.H.H, was holding K (10 months old) in her hand; and the gas stove was only a few meters from the dining table.
Suddenly, the mini gas stove exploded for unknown reasons, causing a piece of broken hook to hit Ms. L's hand and K's head, injuring both of them. The family quickly took baby K to Ba Ria Hospital (Ba Ria Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) for emergency care. Although doctors quickly gave him treatment, the victim did not survive due to deep debris, causing serious traumatic brain injury.
Chau Pha Commune Police said that immediately after the incident, the unit conducted initial verification; at the same time, the file was transferred to PC01 for receipt according to its authority. Currently, PC01 is implementing professional measures to verify and clarify the incident according to regulations.
There are many causes for mini gas cylinders to explode such as: poor quality gas stove; old gas cylinders are re-pumped many times; gas cylinders are pumped too full, not pumped to standards; or even using the gas stove incorrectly...
The unit also discussed with the People's Committee of Chau Pha commune to develop a propaganda plan, recommending people to focus on safe gas use; along with contents on traffic safety, drugs... to implement in the area in the coming time.
