Just in the summer vacation, N.T.H (a 5th grade student) and 3 children in the village went swimming in the rain and went to the bank of the Bac Lieu - Ca Mau river to play. Unfortunately, H. fell into the river, leading to drowning and death.
The victim's family said that after summer holidays, about 11 o'clock on May 27, H. and 3 small friends in the neighborhood invited each other to take a shower and go to the banks of Bac Lieu - Ca Mau river, the section of Hoa Binh town, Hoa Binh district played. While playing, H. unfortunately fell into the river and was swept away by water.
After receiving the report, the Hoa Binh Town Police quickly coordinated with the family to actively search but could not find it. At more than 8:00 a.m. on May 28, H.'s body was found by the authorities about 500m from the scene.
According to statistics from the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Bac Lieu province (now the Department of Home Affairs), drowning accidents are increasing every year. In 2021, the locality had 5 drowning children. However, in the first 6 months of 2022 alone, 6 children died of this cause. From 2023 to now, there are an average of 8 drowning cases each year.
Statistics show that the main causes are children not knowing how to swim or lacking skills and knowledge about preventing drowning accidents; lack of attention and supervision from families, schools, communities and society.
At the launching ceremony of the Month of Action for Children in 2025, Vice Chairman of the Bac Lieu Provincial People's Committee Ngo Vu Thang emphasized: Protecting, caring for and educating children is both a goal and a driving force in the human resource development strategy of our Party and State for the sustainable development of the country.
The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee suggested that all levels and sectors should enhance propaganda to raise both the awareness and actions of the whole society on the Party and the State's guidelines, policies and laws on children's work in general and children in extremely difficult circumstances in particular; mobilizing resources inside and outside the province to contribute to the Party, the State and people to well implement social security policies, protect, educate and care for children, ensure rights and improve the quality of life for children; All levels, sectors, organizations, parents, teachers, teachers and the whole society pay attention and priority for children, build a safe, friendly and healthy environment for all children to live and develop in all fields.
According to the Department of Health, Bac Lieu has over 184,200 children, including over 260 orphans, abandoned children and nearly 1,150 children with disabilities.
