On February 2, Cao Bang Provincial People's Committee issued a letter calling on organizations, businesses, philanthropists and people to join hands to support funding for the program of receiving and testing DNA to identify martyrs who are still missing information in the province.
According to statistics, the whole province currently has 4,359 martyrs whose graves have not been identified.
These are people who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, but so far they have not been able to fully identify information to return to their families and homeland. Identifying the names of martyrs' remains is not only the aspiration of relatives but also the responsibility of all levels, sectors and the whole society.
Implementing the Party and State's policy on building a Gene Bank (DNA) to serve the work of identifying martyrs' remains, Cao Bang province has actively reviewed and collected information, and at the same time deployed the collection of DNA samples from relatives of martyrs in the area.
Through review, the whole province has more than 5,000 relatives of martyrs who need to have samples collected. The total estimated cost for DNA testing and assessment is about 12.5 billion VND.
In the context of local budgets still facing difficulties, mobilizing socialized resources is identified as a necessary solution to ensure progress and efficiency in task implementation.
Cao Bang Provincial People's Committee said that the receipt, management and use of support funds will be carried out for the right purpose, publicly, transparently and in compliance with the provisions of law. The time to receive support funds is extended until the end of April 30, 2026.
The DNA testing program to identify martyrs has profound humanistic meaning, contributing to easing the pain of relatives and families of martyrs, and at the same time expressing the ethical principle of "drinking water, remembering the source", "gratitude" of the nation towards those who bravely sacrificed for the Fatherland.
