On October 22, speaking with reporters, a leader of the People's Committee of Cao Bang province confirmed that the locality is organizing the demolition of the Hien River underpass. Currently, this area has been fenced off, and machinery has been mobilized to carry out the demolition work.
This move was made after the province had just experienced two consecutive historic floods, with the water level in the second phase continuously exceeding the warning level 3. The whole province recorded nearly 10,000 houses damaged by floods.

At the underground bridge location, the amount of waste and trees swept away from upstream is concentrated to form large pieces, making the post-flood area like a "manhole".
According to research, the bridge was built about 5 years ago. Due to its low location, every time the river water rises, the Hien River underpass is often the first place to be deeply flooded.

Many local people said that during the construction preparation period, the People's Committee of Cao Bang City (old) had collected people's opinions. At that time, in addition to agreed opinions, many people expressed concern that the project could affect the flow of the Hien River, increasing the risk of flooding in the central area and hindering the ability to drain floodwaters.

However, the project is still being implemented. After nearly 5 years of use, the Song Hien underpass has contributed to shortening the travel distance, reducing the load on the existing Song Hien bridge.

However, after the shortcomings were clearly revealed through the recent floods, this project has now been officially dismantled.
