On January 14, records of Lao Dong Newspaper reporters showed that the surface of the Van Phong - Nha Trang expressway has stabilized, no longer showing cracks after functional units organized inspection, repair and acceptance for commissioning.
Previously, in December 2025, the section from the south of the Co Ma tunnel entrance to the Van Ninh intersection area, on the expressway surface, many patched locations appeared, mainly concentrated in the Km289 and Km292 areas.

Observation from above shows that about 13km at the beginning of the route (from Km285 to Km298) of the Van Phong - Nha Trang expressway has quite a few patches, including some damaged points with a relatively large area.
The investor of this expressway is Project Management Board 7 under the Ministry of Construction.
According to the investor, after the historic prolonged floods in mid-November 2025, in Khanh Hoa, the unit discovered that the road surface at the beginning of the Van Phong - Nha Trang expressway appeared some cracks with an opening of 3-5mm. Immediately after that, Project Management Board 7 organized to monitor the opening of cracks and monitor the stability of the roadbed.
Through the inspection process, functional agencies determined that there was no phenomenon of further cracking or shifting of the roadbed.
On that basis, the parties agreed on a plan to excavate and replace asphalt concrete layers on the road surface to ensure smoothness and limit surface water seepage along cracks, affecting the structure of the project.
Project Management Board 7 said that the patches on the expressway have a large area (over 50m2/point) due to the construction characteristics different from the national highway.

For the expressway, repairs cannot be carried out at small points but must expand the scope of treatment, because the equipment for compacting and spreading asphalt concrete has a minimum width of about 2m.
Cutting, scratching and resurfacing with wide strips is a mandatory requirement to ensure technical criteria for the flatness and tightness of the road surface structure.
According to the investor, the road surface damage incident has been reported to the Ministry of Construction as a construction incident due to natural disasters.
Relevant units have organized inspections, assessments and handling according to the correct procedures, ensuring the safety of the project before putting it into operation.
The State Inspection Council on construction work acceptance has issued a notice approving the project acceptance results.
Road Management Zone III has also agreed to receive and hand over the project from January 1st. Up to now, no damage has been recorded at the repaired locations.
The Van Phong - Nha Trang expressway project is located entirely in Khanh Hoa province with a total investment of 11,808 billion VND.
The route has a length of 83.35km, the starting point connects south of the Co Ma tunnel gate (Dai Lanh commune), near National Highway 1; the ending point intersects with the Nha Trang - Cam Lam expressway. Of which, 70.3km (section from Van Ninh area to Dien Tho) has been completed and put into operation from April 19.
