Previously, on the evening of November 7, 2023, a crane traveling in the direction of Tran Nhat Duat - Long Bien market (near the location of Road Traffic Police Team No. 1 - Hanoi City Police) crashed into the girder of Long Bien bridge, affecting the structure of this bridge, forcing repair work to ensure safety.
According to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, to repair the problem, the construction unit supported 2 large steel columns. The location of the pillar in the heart of Tran Nhat Duat Street has affected vehicles moving towards Chuong Duong Bridge at some points in the process of causing congestion.

According to workers here, the construction will take place over a period of 1 month, the pillars will be built to support the repair of the bridge girders and will affect people's travel when passing through here.
According to the representative of Ha Hai Railway Joint Stock Company (under Vietnam Railway Corporation), the unit managing and maintaining Long Bien Bridge, after many years of use, Long Bien Bridge has now seriously degraded, many locations are rusted and peeling. The company regularly maintains and repairs small areas, but there are still many locations with potential safety risks.

Also according to the representative of Ha Hai Railway Joint Stock Company, at the steel truss girder No. 6, 7, 8, N1 span downstream (Long Bien - inner city), it is curved; the wing steel truss of some elements here is rusted and worn. At the D3/7 girder, the connecting bars of the owners have leaked, wear and tear on the surface, there are connecting joints with fine lines that are very dangerous, affecting the girder structure, and risking collapse at any time.
Regarding train operations, a representative of Hanoi Station said that the repair does not affect trains to and from Long Bien Station and Hanoi. However, the repair will affect the travel of people below, I hope people will share.
To ensure the safety of people and vehicles using the project, including railways, two-wheeled vehicles and pedestrians, the Hanoi People's Committee has issued a decision approving the Technical Support Project Document "Research on the renovation of Long Bien Bridge" using non-refundable aid from the Economic Agency of the French Embassy in Vietnam. Accordingly, major repairs will be implemented to ensure the safety of the structure and other uses of Long Bien Bridge.
The project has a scale of 3 components: Survey, data collection and analysis, assessment; propose solutions to renovate and repair Long Bien bridge in the short term to ensure traffic safety; research and propose a plan to use the bridge in the future when the national railway line across the bridge stops operation. After that, the bridge will be handed over to the Hanoi People's Committee for management.
