688 billion VND bridge to clear congestion at the eastern gateway of Ho Chi Minh City is delayed in completion

HCMC - The second Tang Long Bridge branch is expected to be completed and put into use by the end of February 2026, instead of the end of this year as previously planned.

Tang Long Bridge across Trau Trau Canal, located on La Xuan Oai Street (old Thu Duc City), is designed with a length of 231 m, including two parallel branches, each branch is 11 m wide, meeting two lanes on the same sidewalk. The two ends of the bridge connect to the approach road system with a total length of 559 m.

The project started in December 2017 with an initial total investment of VND450 billion, later adjusted to VND688 billion.

The project is expected to reduce traffic pressure on La Xuan Oai Street - a road connecting many residential areas, high-tech parks and major traffic axes in the East of the city.

However, the project has been continuously stalled for many years due to land clearance problems. It was not until the end of February 2025, after more than 7 years since the groundbreaking date, that the left branch of Tang Long Bridge was put into operation, serving the traffic direction from Lo Lu Street to D2 Street.

Meanwhile, the right branch of the bridge - serving the opposite direction of traffic - will be constructed from April 1, 2025, with the initial goal of completion by the end of 2025.

However, according to an update from the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (investor), the current progress is only about 23%.

Contractors are synchronously implementing items such as bridgehead retaining walls, construction of approach roads, bored piles for bridge foundation and piers.

With the remaining workload and current progress, the bridge branch must be adjusted to the completion time of February 28, 2026.
