The Tan Ky - Tan Quy bridge project, designed with a length of 80m, a width of 16m, and a 225m approach road on the street of the same name (Binh Tan district, Ho Chi Minh City), started construction in early 2018 with an investment capital of 312 billion VND under the BOT (build - operate - transfer) form, and is expected to be completed the same year.
However, by the end of 2018, the project had reached 70% and was temporarily suspended due to land acquisition problems. At the end of 2022, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council approved the use of more than VND491 billion to complete the Tan Ky - Tan Quy bridge, converting the project's investment form from BOT to public investment. This is also the first project in Ho Chi Minh City to apply this conversion mechanism.
According to Lao Dong on January 20, Tan Ky - Tan Quy bridge has been paved with asphalt, painted with lines, installed with railings, lighting system, signs, and a tent set up for the opening ceremony.
Living on Tan Ky - Tan Quy road, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ly (Binh Tan district) said she was very excited when the project was completed.
“Over the past few days, everyone has been eagerly waiting for the bridge to open to traffic. The project has been delayed for many years, greatly affecting the lives of people around here, especially traffic jams. Now that there is a new bridge, travel is more convenient,” said Ms. Ly.
According to the Management Board of Investment and Construction Projects of Traffic Works of Ho Chi Minh City, the opening of the new Tan Ky - Tan Quy bridge, combined with Tan Ky - Tan Quy road, was completed at the end of 2024, creating an important traffic axis connecting from National Highway 1A to the center of Ho Chi Minh City.
The bridge is pivotal in reducing traffic pressure in the area, especially the southwestern part of the city.
The opening of Tan Ky - Tan Quy bridge becomes even more important when Ho Chi Minh City continues to complete and open phase 1 of Hoang Hoa Tham street and the road connecting Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa before Lunar New Year 2025.
