On the evening of September 7, Mr. Ho Van Thanh - Chairman of the People's Committee of Quynh Phu commune (Nghe An) said that a pine forest fire had just occurred in the area.
At around 4:00 p.m. the same day, a pine forest fire broke out in the Dragon Mountain area, appearing from the back of the mountain adjacent to the sea, then spreading rapidly. Hundreds of people including Quynh Thuan Border Guard, police, militia and local people urgently participated in extinguishing the fire, clearing the food, and creating a firebreak.
By 6pm, the fire was basically under control, with only a few small scattered fire spots remaining. The working groups continued to stick to the scene, extinguishing the fire in conditions of strong winds and complex terrain.
According to the authorities of Quynh Phu commune, the fire mainly burned down the forest canopy, the cause and extent of damage have not been counted.
Immediately after controlling the situation, local forces were assigned to be on duty to prevent the fire from the food layer from breaking out again.
The Ban Co mountain area, Dragon mountain, and Lach Quyen estuary (Quynh Phu commune) currently have nearly 30 hectares of eucalyptus and pine forests, identified as a high-risk hot spot for fire during the prolonged hot and dry season.
