The People's Committee of Thai Nguyen province has just issued a decision to issue an urgent construction order for the embankment project to overcome landslides on the Cau riverbank in Thanh Dam hamlet (Nha Long commune, Phu Binh). The total estimated cost is 25 billion VND.
Accordingly, the Management Board of Investment Projects for Construction of Agricultural Works and Rural Development is the investor of this project. The construction period is in the period of 2024 - 2025.
Once completed, the project will overcome the erosion of the Cau River bank, ensuring the safety of life and property for dozens of households along the riverbank.
Ms. Duong Thi Loan (Thanh Dam hamlet) said that the area along the Cau River bank has seriously eroded. During the recent flood, her family had to move to ensure safety. Many locations along the river bank have eaten deep into their gardens. People are extremely worried as danger is always present.
"Everyone was very excited about the construction of the embankment in Thanh Dam hamlet. The project was implemented very promptly to ensure the safety of people's lives and property.
I hope the project will be completed soon so that in the following flood seasons, people will no longer have to worry and feel insecure. During the recent flood, people here could not eat well or sleep well," said Ms. Loan.
On October 24, speaking with Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Van Manh - Vice Chairman of Nha Long Commune People's Committee said that the embankment project is expected to be implemented in mid-November with a length of 500 meters. After completion, the project will overcome the landslide situation, ensuring safety for the people.
Previously, as Lao Dong reported, in early September 2024, heavy rains caused widespread flooding in Thai Nguyen province. This was a historic flood when the water level of the Cau River peaked at 2,881cm, 67cm higher than in 1959.
A part of the area near the riverbank in Thanh Dam hamlet has been seriously eroded. Long-term heavy rains and erratic water levels have made people extremely insecure. Local authorities have been forced to evacuate dozens of households and dismantle a series of houses along the riverbank.
