According to the direct recording of the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper on the afternoon of October 6 at the river wharf in Phung Nguyen commune, Lam Thao district (the opposite wharf is in Huong Non commune, Tam Nong district), about 400m downstream of the Red River from the location of the Phong Chau bridge collapse on September 9, the military ferry has stopped operating as previously announced.
At this time, the water level of the Red River had receded, and the flow rate had decreased compared to previous days. Officers and soldiers of the 249th Engineer Brigade (Engineer Corps) and Military Region 2 proceeded to reconnect the offshore segments of the PMP 60T pontoon bridge. The work was carried out urgently and professionally.
Previously on October 1, due to the high and fast water level of the Red River, to ensure safety, the military cut the pontoon bridge. After that, the military ferry was used to serve the needs of people and primitive vehicles such as bicycles and motorbikes to cross the river.
With the Phong Chau pontoon bridge reconnected, cars and pickup trucks will be able to travel, ensuring smooth traffic. Phong Chau pontoon bridge will serve people from 6am to 10pm daily.
