According to the Lai Chau Provincial Portal, on August 24, the Lai Chau Provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment organized a conference to announce and award decisions to allocate forests to the Protection Forest Management Board, and at the same time agreed on a plan to hand over forest areas outside the land use plan to the People's Committees of communes and wards for management.
According to Decision No. 1751/QD-UBND, the Protection Forest Management Board is assigned to manage 136,140.72ha of protection forest. Of which, natural forest accounts for 135,870.88ha, with a total reserve of more than 9.56 million m3; planted forest has 269.84ha, distributed in 37 communes and wards.
Forest allocation aims to clearly define the responsibilities of the assigned unit in managing, protecting and developing forests, and at the same time create a basis for unified coordination between localities and specialized agencies.
At the conference, delegates also discussed solutions to hand over forest areas and areas that have implemented forestry measures but do not meet the criteria to become forests, outside the land use plan, to the People's Committees of communes and wards.
Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment Nguyen Thanh Dong requested the Management Board of Protection Forests to fully receive dossiers and maps, clearly define boundaries and current status; clearly assign people and localities, strengthen patrols and inspections, forest fire prevention and fighting, and prevent gaps in management.
The Forest Protection Department is assigned to coordinate with units to organize handover on the ground, ensuring the correct area, correct boundaries, and correct current status, contributing to improving the efficiency of management, protection and development of forests in the province.
