shop owners flexibly respond to weather
On the morning of October 6, light rain appeared on Duy Tan Street (Hanoi City). Ms. Do Thi Thu Huyen - the owner of a coffee shop, just moved the tables and chairs and texted the staff to announce the work schedule for the day.
"Storm No. 11 happened at the beginning of the week, so I proactively notified the staff since yesterday afternoon. Early in the morning, I will text to update the weather situation, if there is strong wind and heavy rain, the restaurant will temporarily close and give the staff a day off, Ms. Huyen shared.
According to Ms. Huyen, giving employees a day off is not only to ensure safety but also shows the owner's respect and responsibility towards the employees. "Money can be earned later, but humans cannot take risks. Most of the staff are students, traveling on the road in storms is very dangerous, so we have to be flexible, Ms. Huyen said.
Putting the safety of workers first
In the face of the developments of storm No. 11, many small businesses in Hanoi, which account for the majority of the livelihoods of seasonal workers, also showed the spirit of proactively responding flexibly, considering safety as the top priority.
Mr. Nguyen Duc - an employee of a coffee shop on Duy Tan Street - said: "On the afternoon of October 5, the owner informed the staff that if there was heavy rain on the morning of October 6 due to the impact of storm No. 11, they would be off and the shop would temporarily close. This morning, seeing that the weather was fine and not affected much, the restaurant owner texted everyone to go to work normally.
According to Mr. Duc, although the notice lines are simple, they show a proactive spirit of response, reducing risks for workers. To be honest, I am very grateful that the restaurant owner cares about and puts the safety of employees first, Mr. Duc shared.
Similarly, Mr. Tran Duc Manh - an employee of a coffee shop also said that the shop owner's proactive adjustment of work schedules during a storm is a humane act, demonstrating a sense of responsibility towards employees.
Mr. Manh said that people working in the service sector often work by shift, with flexible hours, and income depends on the number of hours worked. Therefore, when the weather is bad, without support from the restaurant owner, they are more likely to face risks when trying to go to work. A message allowing a holiday, an early warning from the restaurant owner can help workers avoid danger on the road. That is really appreciated, said Mr. Manh.
