Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc has just issued a decision assigning the task of project preparation and investors of component projects of the North-South axis road upgrade project (Nguyen Huu Tho Street), from Nguyen Van Linh Street to Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway.
The project is implemented under the public-private partnership (PPP) method in the form of a BOT (Build - operate - Transfer) contract.

The 8.6 km long section of Nguyen Huu Tho Street, from Nguyen Van Linh Street to Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway, will be expanded to 60 m with 10 lanes.
Of which, 7.2 km will be built with a 4-lane elevated road, designed speed of 80 km/h, helping vehicles move more conveniently.
Below, two parallel roads on each side are 3 lanes wide, with a maximum speed of 60 km/h.

The project will complete the Nguyen Van Linh intersection and build a new intersection with the Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway. All 14 existing bridges on this road axis will also be expanded.

The Nguyen Huu Tho Street expansion project is divided into two component projects:
Component project 1: Compensation, support, resettlement and relocation of technical infrastructure combined with the complete construction of two important intersections, Nguyen Van Linh and Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway. The Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board is the unit assigned as the investor.
The total area affected by the project is 66.5 hectares. In District 7, 92 households were affected, of which 19 households had to be completely relocated, and 73 households had their land partially reclaimed. In Nha Be district, there are six households partially affected.
The city plans to spend VND1,346 billion from the budget for compensation, support and resettlement, of which District 7 accounts for VND1,327 billion, Nha Be District about VND18.8 billion.

Component project 2: Focus on upgrading and expanding Nguyen Huu Tho Street under a BOT contract. The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport is assigned to prepare the project.
The total investment of the project is about 9,894 billion VND, of which the city budget spends about 4,680 billion VND, the rest is mobilized by investors.
Component project 1 is expected to be implemented from the fourth quarter of 2025. Meanwhile, the BOT project will start construction in the first quarter of 2026 and the entire project is expected to be completed in 2028.

The expansion of Nguyen Huu Tho Street not only helps reduce traffic pressure in the South but also plays an important role in connecting major routes such as Ring Road 2 and Ben Luc - Long Thanh Expressway.
In addition, the project also promotes the development of Hiep Phuoc Port Urban Area, creating favorable conditions for transportation and logistics activities, while effectively connecting with key industrial parks of Ho Chi Minh City and Long An province.
