Da Nang - After days of anxiety due to house collapses and landslides, people in the highlands have a new roof, reassured to welcome Tet.

Overcoming mountains and rain to build houses for people

In the last days of the year, the Mo Roi village resettlement area (Tra Tap commune, Da Nang city) is bustling with the sound of mortar mixers, the sound of hammering amidst persistent forest rain. On the still wet soil, nearly 30 officers and soldiers of Regiment 885 and the Command of Zone III Defense - Tra My took turns digging foundations, building walls, and roofing houses for households whose houses collapsed due to landslides.

Ms. Ho Thi Huong (hamlet 6, Tra Tap commune) is one of 11 households supported to rebuild their houses. Previously, her family had to live temporarily because the house was landslide, her children and grandchildren went to work far away, and her health was weak. “I thought this year there would be no house to celebrate Tet. Being helped by the State and the army to rebuild the house, my family is very happy and much more reassured,” Ms. Huong shared.

According to Senior Lieutenant Colonel Tran Quoc Anh - Deputy Commander, Chief of Staff of the Regional Defense Command III - Tra My, implementing the direction of the Da Nang City Military Command, the armed forces urgently brought people and vehicles to the heavily damaged points. "Standing soldiers and self-defense militia coordinated with local authorities to support households whose houses were completely collapsed, and at the same time relocated people to safe places," Mr. Anh said.

Not only in Tra Tap, in Nam Tra My commune, the consequences of floods at the end of 2025 left heavy figures: 157 landslides, nearly 118,400m3 of soil and rock, more than 500 households affected, 52 houses heavily damaged, estimated damage of over 57.5 billion VND.

Ms. Ho Thi Nhung's family (Nuoc Xa village, Nam Tra My commune) is one of the households that suffered the most damage. "In just a moment, soil and rocks poured down, sweeping away the whole house. At that time, it was almost empty-handed. Thanks to the government and forces' help, my family had the opportunity to rebuild the house," Ms. Nhung choked up.

From collapsed houses to new homes before Tet

Deploying the "Quang Trung Campaign", Da Nang aims to complete the construction and repair of 577 houses for people affected by floods, putting them into use before the 2026 Binh Ngo Lunar New Year. The total budget is mobilized from the budget, the Fatherland Front, socialization funds and the joint efforts of the community.

Colonel Nguyen Xuan Hoang - Deputy Director of Da Nang City Police said that prolonged rainy weather and dangerous terrain make transporting materials very difficult. Officers and soldiers have to carry each sack of cement, carry each brick to overcome mud and soil to keep up with the schedule. Everyone is determined to do it as quickly as possible, and people can rest assured on that day.

Mr. Alang Dich's family (A Vuong mountainous commune) is one of the households that welcomed complete joy when the new house was just completed before the New Year. After months of living in a makeshift situation because the old house was landslide, his whole family could not hide their emotion when they were moved into a solid house built according to the "3 hard" criteria: hard foundation, hard walls, hard roof.

The house is designed to suit harsh weather conditions and the terrain of the highlands, ensuring safety and long-term sustainability. "Having a new house, my family is much more reassured, no longer worried about rain and wind like before. This Tet, the whole family is reunited in a solid roof," Mr. Alang Dich shared, reflecting joy after difficult days.
