The first electric bus route in Con Dao is expected to operate at the end of December.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction has just issued a document reporting to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on the preparation for the opening of an electric bus route in the Con Dao special zone.
It is expected that the 173 electric bus route with the Con Dao - Co Ong District Central route, with a total length of 17.1 km, will officially operate in early December 2025.
The route will use electric buses with 28 to 60 seats, operating from 5am to 8pm every day, with a frequency of 15 minutes/trip and a travel time of about 30 minutes each.
Detailed route: Con Dao market Pham Van Dong Vo Thi Sau Nguyen Hue Ton Duc Thang Nguyen Van Cu Nguyen Chi Thanh Co Ong road internal road to Bai Dam Trau (turning around) internal road to Bai Dam Trau Co Ong road Con Dao Airport and vice versa.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction said that after the 173 electric bus route comes into operation, the unit will coordinate with investors to deploy 5 new electric bus routes, raising the total length of the operating network to 74.33 km, covering about 90% of the traffic system in the special zone.
The proposed routes include: Route 174 (Connecting the central routes of Con Dao); Route 175 (Center of Con Dao - Ben Dam Port); Route 176 (Northwest - Center of Con Dao); Route 177 (Southeast - Center of Con Dao); Route 178 (Connecting famous tourist attractions and landscapes).
According to the Department of Construction, the Con Dao electric bus system will create a green and modern public transport network, meeting the travel and sightseeing needs of people and tourists; at the same time, conveniently connecting important points such as Ben Dam Port, Con Dao Airport and the Special Zone Center.
Before July 1, 2025, Con Dao is in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province. After the merger, this place became the only special zone of Ho Chi Minh City.
Con Dao is identified as a low-emission zone of the city and will become a model of green transportation.
According to the draft Project on controlling emissions of HCMC vehicles, in the next 5 years, 100% of private vehicles here will meet emission standards, 57% of gasoline motorbikes will be converted to electric vehicles, the electric bus network will cover the entire island with 40% of people using public transport. All taxis and buses will also run on clean energy.
After 2030, Con Dao will switch to 100% electric vehicles, while increasing the rate of people using public transport to 80%, towards a green island image.
