Previously, as Lao Dong reported, on the evening of March 15, the Security Control Team of the Aviation Security Team, Immigration Management Department, Hai Phong City Police received a report from flight crews VJC280 and HVN1180 discovering a strange flying object suspected to be a drone in the area approaching Cat Bi International Airport, about 60 m from the plane.
Immediately after that, the airport command station urgently deployed a handling plan, requesting flights to reduce speed to ensure safety.
Due to the impact of unmanned aerial vehicles and ultralight aircraft in this area, many flights (HVN1186, VJC282, HVN1518, HVN1188) had to fly to wait and divert to land at Noi Bai, and some other flights were temporarily suspended, complicating flight security and safety. By 0:35 on March 16, flight operations at Cat Bi airport were restored to normal.
Through coordination, the Immigration Management Department of the City Police identified the violator as D. T. D (born in 1998, residing in Tien Lap village, An Khanh, Hai Phong city) controlling a carbon kite 3.6m long, with attached flutes and flashing lights (blue, red, white) flying at an altitude of about 400m, the length of the rope is about 700m towards Thien Van hill, Kien An.
Faced with this incident, the City Police recommends that people not use drones, flycams, ultralight aircraft, kites, kites with LED lights... near airports without permission. If violated, they may be fined 20 - 40 million VND, equipment confiscated, and even criminally prosecuted if causing serious consequences.
Each citizen needs to raise awareness of complying with regulations on ensuring aviation security and safety; when detecting unmanned aerial vehicles, strange flying objects or acts that show signs of threatening flight operations in the airport area, it is necessary to promptly notify functional agencies for coordination and handling, contributing to ensuring absolute safety for civil aviation activities.
