On July 22, information from Khanh Hoa Provincial Police said that from July 23 to 26, the Provincial Police deployed a peak period of collecting DNA biological samples of relatives of unidentified martyrs, contributing to building a gene bank to serve the search and identification of martyrs' remains.
The peak period is implemented according to the policy of the Government and the Ministry of Public Security on building a gene bank to serve the search and identification of remains of martyrs who lack information.
At the same time, implementing Decision No. 1612/QD-BCĐ of the Steering Committee for searching, repatriating and identifying martyrs' remains of Khanh Hoa province on "Operation 500 days and nights to promote the search, repatriation and identification of martyrs' remains", towards the 80th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs' Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2027).
Through reviewing, verifying and updating data on the National Population Database System, commune-level police have updated information of 10,682 relatives receiving allowances and 12,074 martyrs.
Of which, 7,179 martyrs have identified grave information, and 4,895 martyrs have not yet identified information. For this group, the police force has updated 3,783 family information according to the mother's surname to serve the work of collecting DNA samples.
According to the plan, Khanh Hoa aims to collect DNA biological samples for 2,648/3,783 eligible relatives, reaching about 70%, with the principle of collecting a maximum of two relatives for each martyr to serve comparison.
The peak period is divided into two phases. The first phase takes place from July 23 to 26, 2026, deployed simultaneously throughout the province.
The second phase from July 27 to December 31, 2026, will continue to collect samples for cases that have not been implemented in the first phase according to the schedule of the Ministry of Public Security.
Specifically, during the peak period from July 23 to 26, the Provincial Police arranged sample collection points at the headquarters of the People's Committees of 12 communes and wards, including: Van Ninh, Ninh Hoa, Dong Ninh Hoa, Nha Trang, Dien Khanh, Khanh Vinh, Khanh Son, Cam Ranh, Ninh Chu, Dong Hai, Ninh Phuoc and Bac Ai Dong.
The sample collection points will serve relatives of martyrs of many communes and wards in the area according to the specific schedule announced by each locality.
The Provincial Police requested families subject to DNA sample collection to fully participate to contribute to the journey to find the names of heroic martyrs together with functional agencies.
The construction of a DNA database of martyr's relatives contributes to accelerating the progress of identifying the remains of martyrs who are still missing information, meeting the aspirations of many families after many years of longing to find their loved ones who have sacrificed.
