Thanh Hoa police overnight to keep people in flood-affected areas safe

Thanh Hoa - Faced with the complicated developments of rain and floods, the police force continuously sticks to the area, supporting people to handle incidents and overcome consequences.

On September 18, Thanh Hoa Provincial Police said that in recent days, prolonged heavy rain has complicated the situation of flooding and landslides in many localities. The Provincial Police have mobilized maximum forces and vehicles, and at the same time directed the police of units and localities to proactively deploy response plans and support people.

Overnight handling of key points

In Ba Dinh commune, at about 9 pm on September 17, an incident occurred in the area of the old Nga Thien Pumping Station, water is at risk of overflowing strongly into Tu Thuc village, breaking about 3m of the spillway dam.

Immediately after discovering the incident, Ba Dinh commune authorities mobilized forces, machinery, vehicles and supplies to the scene. Ba Dinh commune police coordinated with military forces, officials and people of Tu Thuc village to urgently transport soil and pack bags to reinforce the critical location.

Many people in neighboring villages were also present at night, along with forces participating in preventing the water from overflowing into residential areas.

At the scene, the task force was divided into many groups. Some groups used machinery and mechanical vehicles to pile soil and reinforce the incident area; other groups continuously monitored the flow, water level and checked locations at risk of new incidents. In dark conditions, strong water flow, handling was deployed continuously and urgently, while ensuring safety for participating forces.

By the morning of September 18, Ba Dinh Commune Police and forces still maintained troops at the scene, continued to reinforce key positions, closely monitored water level developments and organized patrols and guards to be ready to handle arising situations.

Also on the night of September 17, due to the impact of prolonged heavy rain, the Cau Chay river dike slope, passing through Thieu Long village, Thieu Hoa commune, experienced a landslide with a length of about 50m. The incident poses a potential risk to the safety of the dike line as well as the lives and property of people in the surrounding area.

Immediately after detecting the landslide point, the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue of Thieu Hoa commune mobilized nearly 100 people including police, military forces, mass organizations and forces participating in protecting security and order at the grassroots level to the scene.

Forces urgently deploy measures to reinforce landslide locations, limit the risk of continued landslides; and regularly check the developments of rain, water level of the Cau Chay River and the dike line to proactively plan responses.

Stick to the area, block dangerous places

According to Thanh Hoa Provincial Police, in the face of the complicated diễn biến of rain and floods, the Director of the Provincial Police has directed the police of units and localities, especially the Traffic Police force and police in mountainous areas, key areas, places at risk of flooding and landslides, to proactively deploy plans for disaster prevention and control.

Forces are required to deploy troops to stick to the area, stick to the line, maintain duty and be ready to handle unexpected situations.

At dangerous locations, functional forces are determined not to let people and vehicles intentionally enter areas at risk of accidents.

On traffic routes, traffic police, order police, commune and ward police and security and order protection teams at the grassroots level maintain regular forces, sticking to the route overnight, organizing traffic diversion and directing vehicles from afar.

In parallel with the task of ensuring traffic safety, the police of units and localities proactively mobilize vehicles and forces on the spot, coordinate with functional sectors to urgently overcome the consequences of floods.

On roads blocked by soil, rocks, trees and obstacles, functional forces organize leveling and clearing as soon as weather conditions permit, in order to soon restore traffic.

Thanh Hoa Provincial Police said that forces in localities continue to closely monitor weather developments, water levels on rivers and lakes and the situation in areas at risk of flooding and landslides to promptly deploy response measures and minimize damage caused by natural disasters.
