On October 26, Tra Leng Commune Police (Da Nang) said that during a patrol in the area in heavy rain, the unit promptly discovered and rescued a rare large turtle swept away and trapped by floodwaters.
Recognizing this as a rare wild animal, the police officers quickly brought the turtle to safety and contacted the authorities.


Immediately afterwards, Tra Leng Commune Police coordinated with the Forest Protection Department and Da Nang City Special Forces to conduct rescue and hand over in accordance with regulations. The turtle has been released into the natural environment safely.
The turtle is the large-headed turtle (scientific name platysternon megacephalum). This is an animal belonging to Group IB according to Decree 84/2021/ND-CP of the Government - a group of endangered and rare species, strictly prohibited from hunting, captivating, buying, selling, and illegally transporting in any form.
