According to the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province, the approval of the above architectural works is to support effective management, monitoring and supervision, and at the same time serve as a source of documents to build attractive tourism programs and products to attract visitors to the locality.
This is also the basis for proposing protection solutions and landscape architecture ideas to promote the value of works with the characteristics of Ha Long in the process of urban planning and construction, ensuring sustainable development.
Among them, Bai Chay Bridge across Cua Luc Bay - known as "Ha Long Palace" - was inaugurated and put into operation on December 2, 2006, designed and constructed by Japanese units. In addition to its beautiful architecture, the project has a clearance height of 50m and is capable of withstanding level 7 earthquakes, storms and erratic temperature changes of harsh climates.
Meanwhile, the current headquarters of the Quang Ninh Provincial Federation of Labor was built by the French in 1896 and is the office of a large French mine owner. The building represents the fusion of classical Eastern and Western architectural styles, creating a unique cultural color that can only be found in Vietnam. The building is still preserved intact in terms of shape, interior and exterior architecture, doors, stairs, ironwood floors, etc.
Quang Ninh Provincial Planning, Fair and Exhibition Palace (commonly known as Dolphin Palace) was inaugurated and welcomed visitors since October 2016. Dolphin Palace is 21.5m high, has a total construction area of 20,700m2, and a floor area of 31,194m2, designed by Spanish architect Salvador Perez Arroyo. This project was once in the Top 10 construction works and buildings in the world honored at the Chicago International Architecture Award in 2019, organized by the Chicago Museum of Architecture and Design and the European Center for Urban Research and Design.
Right next to the Dolphin Palace is the Quang Ninh Provincial Museum - Library, also designed by architect Salvador Perez Arroyo, which is one of the must-see destinations for tourists when coming to Ha Long. The project was built on an area of 24,000m2, and has been serving tourists since 2013. The architect was inspired by the image of coal - a typical mineral of Quang Ninh - to design this project.
In particular, the exterior of the building is covered by 14,000 square meters of black tempered glass that changes color according to time, weather, and the outside scenery...
The clock tower in the center of Ha Long started construction at the end of 2016 and was completed at the end of March 2017. The 28m high structure was inspired by the coal formation process of Quang Ninh, the entire exterior is designed with yellow tempered glass. According to the design, the clock tower is made of 53 large and small stone blocks, the inside is steel, the outside is glass, above is a clock system showing the time of Vietnam and some other countries. Below is a fountain and lighting system.
